Sony Xperia Tablet Z goes on pre-order worldwide today

Sony announced today that its Xperia Tablet Z, which was unveiled earlier this year, would be available globally through its retail and operator partners. The tablet, which the Japanese company claims is the slimmest and lightest tablet, will be available in Wi-Fi and in 4G versions. Apple and Sony are the only major tablet manufacturers to have 4G-capable devices on the market, a critical feature that may give them a leg-up in the lucrative entreprise market. The tablet carries suggested retail prices of £399, £449 and £499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi, the 32GB Wi-Fi and the 16GB 4G/LTE versions respectively. The tablet is essentially a bigger version of the Xperia Z smartphone. It has a massive 10.1in 1,920 x 1,200 display with Reality Display and Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, is waterproof, has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (APQ8064 clocked at 1.5GHz) with 2GB of Ram, 16GHB onboard storage, USB, an 8-megapixel rear camera with Exmor R sensor and much more. The tablet is a mere 7.2mm thick and weighs a mere 495g. Despite its dimensions and weight, it can last nearly 10 hours when playing a video.
