Samsung ATIV S Neo

Samsung ATIV S Neo
Samsung ATIV S Neo
The Samsung ATIV S Neo is a variant of the Samsung ATIV S. Early preview shots of the handset suggest a near identical design, but with some minor materials and colour variations from the ATIV S global variant. The specifications suggest some minor internal changes, and the cellular radio will be changed to support Sprint's bands and technology. The device includes international voice and data capabilities, suggesting WCDMA and potentially GSM radios will be included in addition to the LTE and CDMA radios. Kevin Packingham, Samsung Mobile chief product officer, said: “Samsung is committed to offering smartphones across a variety of platforms and the rich Windows Phone 8 experience on the ATIV S Neo is a testament to this effort. The ATIV S Neo makes it easy to stay in-the-know while connecting with friends, family and colleagues, through new sharing features and powerful productivity applications.” Key features of the Samsung ATI S Neo include a 4.8 inch display (HD - 720 x 1280 resolution), 8 megapixel camera, 1.4GHz dual-core processors, 1 GB of RAM, microSD card slot, and 2,800 mAH battery. The device will ship with a number of Samsung exclusive apps, including the recently released ATIV Beam, a camera app with a Beauty mode (smoother looking skin in headshots), Manga Camera (turn friends and family into cartoons), and Samsung's standard Photo Editor app. The Samsung ATI S Neo, which will go on sale later this summer, will be available for $149.99 with a two year contract commitment, after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Sony Xperia Z Tablet

  Sony Xperia Z Tablet
  Sony Xperia Z Tablet
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z has some serious 'wow' factor. While recently released smartphones and tablets have mostly tinkered around the edges, with incremental improvements to hardware, the Xperia Z tablet is here to shake things up. There’s plenty to like about the Xperia tablet’s design: an impressively slim 6.9mm device which is not only thinner than other 10” inch tablets but also puts the iPhone 5 to shame. Equally impressive is the fact that Sony has managed to fit all the necessary ports and battery without putting on much weight. The water and dustproof device weighs in at just 495 grams. That’s 24 per cent lighter than the latest iPad and 18 per cent lighter than a Google Nexus 10. This is a formidable offering from Sony, but then again it has to be, because the Xperia tablet goes into battle against heavyweight competition like Google and Apple.

Samsung S4 marketing charm wears off

Samsung S4 marketing charm wears off
Samsung S4 marketing charm wears off
SEOUL: Analysts fell under Samsung Electronics Co Ltd's marketing spell when they made what they now admit were hopelessly optimistic forecasts for its smartphone sales. Samsung's huge share of the high-end smartphone market also persuaded some analysts to downplay industry data pointing to a fast-saturating segment, a reality that is already eating into sales of Apple Inc's iPhone 5. Woori Investment & Securities, one of South Korea's largest securities firms, cut its outlook for Samsung's earnings and target share price on June 5. It was the first to adjust its view. A massive wave of downgrades has since followed, with forecasters including JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs taking a harder look at their assumptions of how well the S4, Samsung's latest Galaxy smartphone, would actually do.

SOUTH KOREA: Samsung Electronics plans to sell a variation of its flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone that will transmit data at nearly twice the normal speed, the head of its mobile business said on Monday. JK Shin, also co-chief executive of the world's biggest technology firm by revenue, said the phone would be sold in South Korea as early as this month. Samsung was in talks with several overseas carriers to take the phone, Shin told Reuters in an interview at Samsung's headquarters in Suwon, just south of Seoul. He declined to name the carriers. "We'll be the first with the commercial launch of the advanced 4G version of the smartphone," Shin said. The new S4 will use LTE-Advanced 4G technology, an upgrade from conventional 4G called LTE, or long term evolution. LTE-Advanced offers data transmission at up to twice the normal 4G speed. The phones will be powered by Qualcomm chips.

Xperia M Ericsson

 Xperia M Ericsson
Electronics manufacturer Sony ended a relatively quiet period today by announcing a new Xperia M smartphone. Judging from its dual-core processor and 5MP camera, clearly the Xperia M is a midrange Android handset and not in the same class as the company's Xperia Z flagship device. That said, Sony seems to have crafted the Xperia M with a similar amount of care and an eye for style. The Xperia M, if the official photos of the gadget do it justice, seems to be quite a looker. Thin and trim with angled edges, the phone sports many of the industrial design language that set the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL apart. You'll even find the familiar sliver of an LED notification light below the Xperia M's 4-inch (854x480 pixels) LCD screen. It pulsates in different colors depending on the alert it is communicating. Related stories Sony Xperia Z makes its way to T-Mobile Sony reportedly readies first phablet The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is so incredibly thin (pictures) Of course the display can't hold a candle to the massive and bright 5-inch full HD (1,920x1,080 pixels) screen that both the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL flaunt. Even so, a smaller viewing area likely translates into a more compact and pocket-friendly chassis. And like the Xperia ZL, the Xperia M appears to lack the Xperia Z's fancy glass back siding and splash/dust resistant body. The Xperia M looking pretty. (Credit: Sony) There's no word on pricing yet, nor is availability for the Xperia M is set for a specific date, beyond Q3 2013. I'm guessing chances are slim that it will reach U.S. shores, since the GSM phone lacks support for 4G LTE. For more info, take a look at our partner site CNET UK's take on the Sony Xperia M.

(Credit: Samsung) Samsung's S4 Galaxy Zoom -- which combines an Android smartphone with a 16-megapixel camera and 10x zoom lens -- is real. The model isn't likely to appeal to the mainstream smartphone buyer. But in an Android market crowded with options, a niche that caters to a particular subset can be a reasonable approach -- especially if that subset is as passionate, enthusiastic, and willing to part with money as photographers often are.

Samsung Galaxy Ace 3

Samsung Galaxy Ace 3
Samsung has announced another budget Galaxy smartphone: the Galaxy Ace 3. The Galaxy Ace 3 upgrades the specifications of its predecessor, the Galaxy Ace 2, with a 1GHz dual-core ARM-based processor and 1GB of RAM. The 480x800, 4in touch-screen uses LCD technology rather than Samsung's contrast-enhancing and battery-saving AMOLED. The rear of the handset has a five megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video support, with a VGA-resolution camera for video chat functionality at the front. 4GB of internal storage can be upgraded using a micro-SD card slot. As well as 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, The Galaxy Ace 3 includes assisted GPS and GLONASS (the Russian alternative to GPS) positioning support and will launch in 3G and Long Term Evolution (LTE) high-speed variants. The handset is due to launch with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, customised using Samsung's own TouchWiz user interface. Pre-loaded Samsung specific applications include S Voice, S Travel, S Translator, and Smart Stay. The latter uses the front-facing camera to turn the screen off to save battery when you look away from it. Samsung has confirmed it will be launching the handset alongside a Duos-branded dual-SIM variant in the near future, but has not indicated when it will be coming to the UK. The Galaxy Ace 2 is expected to cost the same as the Ace 2 at launch, at around £230.

Sony Xperia L review

Sony Xperia L review
Sony Xperia L review
The Xperia L is Sony's mid-range handset for this year, slotting in under the powerful Xperia SP and flagship Xperia Z. It's currently fairly expensive on contract but, at less than £225 SIM-free, you get an awful lot of phone for your money. Sony Xperia L The handset doesn't have a spectacular specification, but it all works well as a package. You get a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and Android 4.1 - not much on paper, compared to the near-2GHz monsters we're now seeing on premium smartphones, but we've no complaints about the handset's performance. Apps open and shut with a snap and animations are silky-smooth. As we expected, the phone's performance in our Sunspider 1.0 JavaScript benchmark wasn't spectacular. It completed the test in 2,646ms using the default Chrome browser, which is twice as long as we saw from the Xperia SP with its 1.7GHz dual-core chip. Chrome is slow in Sunspider, but even with the faster Dolphin browser we only saw 1,564ms, which is very much a middling result. Subjectively, this average benchmark score didn’t make much difference to the phone's web browsing performance.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z review

Sony Xperia Tablet Z review
  Sony Xperia Tablet Z review
This is Sony's entrant into the 10-inch tablet arena, pitting itself against the likes of the Google Nexus 10 and iPad 4. Its 1,920 x 1,200 resolution screen falls a little short of both, but its trump card is that, just like Sony Xperia Z phone, it's water resistant up to one metre for 30 minutes, and dust resistant. Is it enough to turn the tide in its favour? Sony Xperia Tablet Z - Design Vitally, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z's water resistance doesn't come at the expense of style or portability. Quite the opposite, in fact. At 495g, it's 108g lighter than a Nexus 10 and 167g lighter than an iPad 4. It's a big difference, one that makes the Sony Xperia Tablet Z comfortable to hold in one hand for prolonged periods. It's also impressively slim - just 7.2mm all round - while the jet black design gives the Sony Xperia Tablet Z a sleek, imposing appearance that's all its own. Its size and 16:10 screen ratio is a little awkward for reading books (albeit better than 16:9 tablets), but it's perfect for games, video and web browsing. It's just a shame it doesn't feel as good as it looks.

Apple Inc. iPhones, iPads banned by US, Samsung Group triumphs
Samsung Group scored a victory over rival Apple Inc in their long-running dispute over mobile device patents after a US trade agency issued an order banning older but still-popular Apple products like iPhones and iPads from the US market. The US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled on Tuesday that the Silicon Valley giant had infringed on a patent owned by Samsung Electronics that involves the ability of devices to transmit multiple services simultaneously and correctly through 3G wireless technology. The independent federal agency slapped a ban on the import or sale of the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G distributed by AT&T, the biggest seller of Apple devices in the United States when Samsung filed its complaint in 2011. The products are assembled in Asia. US President Barack Obama has 60 days to review the ruling. If he does not veto the order, it will go into effect. It is not immediately clear what the impact could be on Apple or AT&T should Obama let the ruling stand, since the decision remains subject to a potentially prolonged appeals process. While the products targeted are more than a year old, some models such as the iPhone 4 remain solid sellers. The most recent version covered by the ITC's decision - the iPhone 4 - is now given away with a contract offered by carriers including Verizon Wireless, which is not affected by the ruling.

Souped up Huawei Vision gives insight to the blind

When members of the blind community petition the National Federation of the Blind about cell phones, they repeatedly ask for two things: a mobile phone that's easy to use, and audiobooks. So says Odin Mobile, a new mobile network catering to the visually impaired. The Huawei Vision, Odin Mobile's star of the show at launch, promises to deliver both of those most-wanted attributes as soon as July -- and then some. Less important than the coincidentally named and preexisting Huawei Vision debut device is the modified operating system that's loaded onto the Android phone. Called Project Ray, or Ray for short, the OS combines gestures with audio feedback in a way that helps sight-impaired customers navigate around. For example, let's say you're in the dialer. Anywhere you place your finger on the touch display becomes the 5 button, the center of the dialpad. Based on that orientation, owners slide their finger on the display, lifting to select when the audio feedback reads out their desired number. This is a typical behavior for cell phone interfaces for visually impaired users, said Boaz Zilberman, Project Ray's founder

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 debuted last month, and this is apparently soon going to be followed by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, which is likely to be a less-expensive version of this Android tablet. After recently getting a mention in the Wall Street Journal, this model was discovered in the GLBenchmark database by the Dutch website TechTastic, revealing many of the specs. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is supposedly going to have, logically enough, an 8-inch screen. This will have a 1280 x 800 pixel (WXVGA) resolution. It will allegedly run Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), with Samsung's TouchWiz interface layered on top, on a dual-core 1.5Ghz Samsung Exynos 4412 processor. There will be 2GB of RAM, but the amount of built-in storage is not yet known. A 4500mAh battery will power the device. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 P5200
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 P5200
It was the other day that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (7.0) was officially announced, and if you’re looking forward to its potentially larger sibling, the 10.1” model, benchmarks have surfaced which shows that the 10.1” version of the Galaxy Tab 3 could be pretty impressive. A Samsung device with the model number GT-P5200 was spotted not too long ago on the AnTuTu benchmarks, and considering that the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) was the GT-P5100, we guess it’s safe to assume that this is its successor. However as Samsung no longer uses the GT-PXXXX for its tablets, the folks at SamMobile are suspecting that perhaps this benchmark was done on an early prototype device, although based on the benchmarks it looks like this prototype might pack a punch. The device was shown to run on a 1.66GHz CPU with a 1280×800 WXGA display and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean to top it off. We’re not sure if the device will be powered by a Qualcomm quad-core chipset, or Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa-core. In any case as benchmarks can be manipulated, not to mention the model number suggests an early prototype, try not to read too much into this for now, but hopefully additional details about Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 (10.1) will surface in the near future.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 P5210
These past few months have been a whirlwind of Samsung Galaxy rumors, leaks, announcements and FCC leaks.  Today,  the  Samsung  GT-P5210  took  a  trip through the  FCC  office,  indicating that  the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is coming soon, but at the same time revealing very little information on specifications. What we do know is that it has a 10-inch screen, a name that lines up with the rest of the Galaxy Tab 3 family (the Galaxy Tab 7.0’s model number is GT-P3210), and that it is the WiFi-only version. We don't know anything else about the device, including whether the processor inside is the rumored Intel Atom chipset. Samsung already has an event lined up for the 20th of June, where we’ll see Android and Windows devices. For now it looks like the Samsung GT-P5210 will be revealed on the event day, but don’t be surprised if Samsung announces the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 a little sooner.

Huawei Ascend P2

 Huawei Ascend P2

 Huawei Ascend P2

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei recently announced a phone that it claims will offer the fastest download speeds in the world. The Ascend P2, dubbed the "world's fastest 4G LTE smartphone", supports download speeds of up to 150Mbps but requires your mobile network to come to the party. Expert Rating 0.00 / 5 User Rating Be first to review Pros Cat 4 LTE speeds Slim and lightweight design Physical camera button Cons Not a full HD display No microSD card slot No AU release date Bottom Line Huawei claims its new Ascend P2, dubbed the "world's fastest 4G LTE smartphone", supports download speeds of up to 150Mbps but it will require your mobile network to come to the party. Would you buy this? Yes 28 No 2 Price TBA (AUD) Huawei is certainly crowing about the Ascend P2's potential data speeds. While its notable as the highest speed LTE connection we've seen in a smartphone, the LTE Cat 4 specification on the Ascend P2 requires mobile networks to come to the party. In Australia, Telstra claims it will be releasing Cat 4 devices on its network "later this year" so the feature is likely to eventually become the norm. The Huawei Ascend P2 is just 8.4mm slim and weighs a very light 122g, which is quite notable for a phone with a large 4.7in screen. The light weight is achieved by an all-plastic design and a case that's fully sealed. Unfortunately, that slimness has resulted in a non-removable battery and no microSD card slot, so the on-board 16GB of storage can't be expanded. Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the Ascend P2 is its screen. The 4.7in IPS display has a 720p resolution of 1280x720 rather than a full HD resolution that is quickly becoming a regular feature of flagship Android smartphones. The pixel density of 312ppi isn't a sour point by any means but can't quite match newer rivals like the HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z. Aside from being a Cat 4 rated LTE device, the specification sheet of the Ascend P2 reads like many other mid to high-end Android phones. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, has 1GB of RAM and comes with a 13-megapixel camera that doubles as a full HD video recorder. There's also a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video calls and a dedicated, physical camera button. Huawei will initially ship the Ascend P2 with the Android 4.1 operating system but the phone comes with the company's own Emotion UI 1.5 overlay on top. Features include a 'UniHome' function that combines home screens with the app drawer, a new customisable 'Me Widget' and a housekeeper app that will track data usage, exit idle programs and offer energy saving functions. Other features of the Huawei Ascend P2 include a 2420 mAh battery that promises up to 310 hours of standby time and built-in NFC connectivity. Huawei Ascend G526

Huawei Ascend G526

Huawei Ascend G526

Huawei have shown off another new Android smart-phone at MWC 2013, the Huawei Ascend G526, which is a mid range Android smart-phone. Featuring a 4.5 inch qHD display with a resolution of 540 x 9760 pixels and it comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it also features a dual core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. Coming with a 1,950 mAh battery, it also features LTE and Wi-Fi Direct, the handset measures 133mm x 67.5mm by 9.9mm thick is actually rather comfortable to hold in the hand. However there are no details as yet on when it will be available and how much it will retail for. As for the Chinese company has a history of hiding an unannounced phone or two in less-visited corners of the booth. Looks like, this time around its the Ascend G526 that blends into the background, hanging out with a few other LTE-enabled devices but the G526, which hasn’t been assigned any pricing or time frame for availability. Speaking of more, there appears to be three variants of this device – L11, L22 and L33 – each one offering different frequencies for various carriers and markets. Speaking of which, about par for the course when it comes to midrange handsets, with a slick plastic back that curves inward on each side so as to hug the edges. Moreover, a 3.5mm jack can be seen up top while the power and volume buttons are on the right but tragically, the micro-USB charging port is located on the upper left side of the phone, which is an incredibly awkward place when you’re trying to use the device whilst its chained to an outlet. OUCH! Some of the other specifications on the Huawei Ascend G526 include, dual cameras, on the back of the device we have a 5 megapixel camera and on the front there is a VGA camera for video chat. This phone might be the one you are looking for but let’s wait for the price until then!

 Huawei Ascend G615

Huawei's just unveiled the Ascend G 615 (not to be confused with the G 520) in Germany, and it's packing a 4.5-inch 720p IPS display and 1.4GHz quad-core processor for 299 euros. In addition to the silicon, 8GB of built-in storage, 1GB of RAM and a microSD slot hide behind the 330 ppi display. As for optics, the phone carries a 1.3-megapixel front-facing cam and an 8-megapixel shooter accompanied by a dual-LED flash, and records 1080p footage. In terms of connectivity, the device features support for WiFi, Bluetooth and pulling down 21Mbps over HSDPA. Next month, the G 615 will be served up in Germany with Ice Cream Sandwich onboard, but Huawei says the hardware will be updated to Jelly Bean at some point in March. There's no word on a US release, but it's expected to hit the road for a few international markets in short order. New BlackBerry Q5

New BlackBerry Q5

New BlackBerry Q5

Since the launch of the BlackBerry 10 operating system there has only been two handsets available to consumers in certain markets, but these both come with a relatively high asking price. Now the company has announced the new BlackBerry Q5 that will stand out for the target audience it is aimed for. The company has been holding a BlackBerry Live event and the new BlackBerry Q5 that has been announced seems to be the device that was previously going under the name of the R10. It is obviously being aimed for emerging markets and teenagers being a mid-range device, but at the time of writing BlackBerry has not given much away regarding specifications or pricing for the handset. What is known so far is that the handset will feature a 3.1-inch touchscreen display paired with a physical QWERTY keyboard. The device will also be available in red, white, black, and pink colour options and is expected to become available in Africa, Asia, The Middle East, and Europe at the beginning of July. The device has been promised to provide users a fast and streamlined smartphone experience with applications working seamlessly together on the handset. Previously rumours have suggested the device would have a resolution of 720 x 720 on a handset that will have a 5-megapixel rear facing camera with 8GB of built in storage and 2GB of RAM. Although until the company unveils the full specifications and pricing for the handset everything else will remain speculation for the time being.

BlackBerry Z10

BlackBerry Z10

BlackBerry Z10

The BlackBerry Z10 is the first handset from the company formerly known as RIM, now renamed BlackBerry, to run its new operating system BlackBerry 10, and there's much more on the line here than simply making a few pennies – arguably the company's survival rests on the success of this device and the BlackBerry Q10. It's no secret that BlackBerry has been on the rocks for the past year or so, with the company even admitting that it hasn't been in the best shape of late, and the 4G toting Z10 is the start of what is hoped to be a successful revolution. Since its launch a few months ago the BlackBerry Z10 has received a software update which has seen things become more stable, plus the app store has also witnessed some new arrivals, so we've taken the time to update the keys parts of our review with the latest information. In the UK the handset has witnessed a slight price drop since launch and you can pick up the Z10 free on contracts starting at £32 per month, while you'll need to fork out a still princely £470 if you want it SIM-free. The US was only treated to the BlackBerry Z10 in late March, available for around $199.99 on contract and about $630 SIM-free. Sporting a 4.2-inch 1280 x 768 display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and its steep price tag, the BlackBerry Z10 finds itself jostling for position with the Nokia Lumia 920, Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5. Lock eyes on the BlackBerry Z10 and you'll notice it's an unassuming slab of black glass and plastic that mimics the general aesthetical design of many a smartphone these days. The Z10 is a little bezel-heavy with a sizable gap above and below the screen, and that's before we even get to the additional plastic chunks stuck on both ends of the handset. BlackBerry Z10 review It all seems a little unnecessary but luckily it doesn't make the BlackBerry Z10 overly cumbersome, with the handset measuring a comfortable 130 x 65.6 x 9mm (5.1 x 2.6 x 0.4 inches). Weight wise the BlackBerry Z10 finds a happy medium – weighing 137.5g (4.85 oz), it's nowhere near as heavy as the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, yet it's not as feather light as the iPhone 5. BlackBerry Z10 review The weight gives it a reassuring presence in the palm and while the chassis is distinctly plastic, the handset's heft at least restores some form of premium feel. Around the back you're greeted with a textured plastic rear that is slightly rubberised, providing a decent level of grip. BlackBerry Z10 review There are only a couple of things to note on the back of the BlackBerry Z10: the 8MP camera with a single LED flash, sat in the top-left corner, and the shiny metallic BlackBerry logo in middle. We were pleased to find that the rear can be removed easily by placing a finger in the indented speaker grill at the base of the Z10, enabling us to simply peel off the plastic. BlackBerry Z10 review Underneath you'll find microSIM and microSD slots, with the latter capable of supporting cards up to 32GB in capacity, although we've been told that a future update may see this support boosted to the 64GB variants. This means you can build nicely on the already decent 16GB of internal storage, which will appeal to many who have been put out by the likes of the iPhone range and HTC One, which don't offer storage expansion. BlackBerry Z10 review An added boon is the removable 1,800mAh battery, enabling you to switch out a dead battery for a fully charged one if you're someone who likes to carry multiple power packs around. On the rear cover itself you'll notice the NFC pad, which enables the BlackBerry Z10 to interact with other compatible wireless devices. BlackBerry Z10 review On the right-hand side of the Z10, anyone familiar with the BlackBerry PlayBook will instantly recognise the triple button setup, with volume rocker switches separated by a central key – used for playing/pausing music and activating voice control when held down. Up top you get a centralised power/lock key next to a 3.5mm headphone jack, while on the left there's a couple of handy connectivity ports. BlackBerry Z10 review The metal finish of the keys gives the handset a touch of class - if not a little sharp when you catch your finger on them - and all are well positioned, enabling us to reach them easily when using the Z10 one-handed. The now standard microUSB port that features on pretty much every phone these days (bar the iPhone) is present, alongside a miniHDMI port. This enables you to connect the BlackBerry Z10 directly to a TV for big screen viewing. BlackBerry Z10 review There's no HDMI cable in the box so you'll need to pick one up separately, but there is at least a USB cable so you can hook the Z10 up to your computer. The BlackBerry Z10 doesn't wow us with a new design, but it's a sturdy handset with a decent build quality and functional layout that makes it easy to handle.
