Samsung has announced another budget Galaxy smartphone: the Galaxy Ace 3. The Galaxy Ace 3 upgrades the specifications of its predecessor, the Galaxy Ace 2, with a 1GHz dual-core ARM-based processor and 1GB of RAM. The 480x800, 4in touch-screen uses LCD technology rather than Samsung's contrast-enhancing and battery-saving AMOLED. The rear of the handset has a five megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video support, with a VGA-resolution camera for video chat functionality at the front. 4GB of internal storage can be upgraded using a micro-SD card slot. As well as 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, The Galaxy Ace 3 includes assisted GPS and GLONASS (the Russian alternative to GPS) positioning support and will launch in 3G and Long Term Evolution (LTE) high-speed variants. The handset is due to launch with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, customised using Samsung's own TouchWiz user interface. Pre-loaded Samsung specific applications include S Voice, S Travel, S Translator, and Smart Stay. The latter uses the front-facing camera to turn the screen off to save battery when you look away from it. Samsung has confirmed it will be launching the handset alongside a Duos-branded dual-SIM variant in the near future, but has not indicated when it will be coming to the UK. The Galaxy Ace 2 is expected to cost the same as the Ace 2 at launch, at around £230.
